I decided to create this zine because it was a reminder of the winter I spent with my dad trying to binge watch all the Harry Potter movies. When I was younger I hated watching movies and my dad loved them. It wasn't until I was around 8 or 9 that he started watching the movies and I started reading the books. Last year that he told me that he had never finished watching the movies because he wanted to watch them with his daughters. At this point I had already watched the movies and had read the books religiously. This winter I decided that my break would be devoted to watching all 8 movies with him. Throughout making this zine Ive learned that determining the media visualized is a big part of media literacy and knowing how to interpret the story within the images. This led to some trial and error as there is a specific timeline I was trying to convey throughout the pages in this zine. Originally I wanted to focus on color and how the mood throughout the story changes and how that can be visualized through the color schemes on each page. This proved difficult because editing the hue of the images gave the wrong type of vibe. So, before I edited the hues of the images individually and as a whole I wanted to create the collages and see if the scenes from the movies conveyed a change in emotion using color throughout the story. When finished with the raw images I noticed that each individual collage had its own color scheme unique to the events that happened in the story. I did like this interpretation of the color as separate stories put together to create a whole complete narrative and I do think that this portrayal of color throughout the zine was successful. If I were to do this project differently I would've tried to focus on a less collage-y aesthetic. I think that taking the reader through the story chronologically is important, especially if the story is unknown.
