In my project, I wanted to explore the interplay between artificial intelligence and artistic expression. I wanted to portray AI as the collaborator or a bridge between art and technology. This artisitc approach was aimed at redefining the boundaries of creativity, human input and machine learning.
The first step of this project, for me, was to really familiarize myself with all the different types of AI that have been popping up. Through the generative capabilities of AI I was able to experiment with various algorithms that produce various visual art forms. I aimed to challenge traditional paths and aimed to layer multiple AI and glitch works in each of the pieces I made. In order to have a more cohesive project I wanted to start with the same general image, something simple that you could recognize as the degradation of the glitch took over. I focused on the complementary colors of the images as the backbone of the glitch work. Unfortunately as I worked I realized that layer glitch work and AI leaves a messy image. I wanted to be able to visualize and see the evolution of the AI image with many layers of added work. Thus I decided to create a ‘timeline’ of images that shows their degradation by the added glitch work. Through trial and error, I encountered both exhilarating breakthroughs and frustrating setbacks, each a vital lesson in the artistic process. Even Wix was able to glitch some of the images that were broken by code, this added an extra layer of degradation and change.
A significant challenge was balancing human input with algorithmic output. I discovered that the best results emerged from iterative dialogues with the AI, where I adapted my ideas based on its productions. This interplay revealed unexpected depths, pushing me beyond my initial conceptions.
Looking forward, I am inspired to further integrate diverse AI technologies into my art practice. I would like to further use AI to enhance my work in ways that human interaction just can't do. This artwork would aim to create immersive experiences that invite audiences to reflect on their relationship with technology and creativity. I think that this project serves as an exploration of how AI can not only shape artwork but also redefine our understanding of artistic potential in the digital age.
